Description
A gorgeous display that showcases a slice of teak root, hand carved, and mounted inside a frame constructed from upcycled old Javanese structures. A burnt charcoal finish adds intrigue to the piece, revealing the intricate structure of the timber.

A burnt charcoal finish showcases the natural textures. This finish is not achieved by using a coloring agent such as a paint or a stain. It is actually a very old Japanese technique called “Shou Sugi Ban” which roughly translates as “Burn The Cedar.”
These reclaimed timbers are specially treated, kiln dried, and then sanded before the initial charring process. Once charred, it is then re-sanded before charring the surface once more. This process is repeated until the furniture maker is satisfied that the piece is sufficiently rich in texture, tone and pattern. It is then protected with a natural oil before adding a clear top coat to further protect the finish, and to minimise the possibility of stains.
Depending on the dimensions of the furniture piece, a skilled carpenter may only be able to produce one to three pieces each day.

This product is individually hand made using natural materials ensuring each piece is distinctively different and possesses unique characteristics. Variations or imperfections in colour, design, size and finish may occur from piece to piece, and are not considered faults, rather they attest to the individual and unique qualities of natural products and their hand made nature. Cracking, splitting, natural defects or leaching of natural oils may be present in natural timbers and can cause unavoidable stains on light fabrics that come in contact with them.
Shipping
Items listed as PRE ORDER ship as noted on the description, and may experience delays outside our control. Items requiring upgraded fabrics may take up to 4 weeks before being ready for shipping.
For our standard shipping, large furniture items arrive packed in boxes and will be delivered to the entrance or a safe place if the destination address is unattended at time of delivery. Shipping does not include unpacking, setup, or trash removal. Issues that restrict delivery, which may include lift access, long driveways, higher than 2 stories, or streets with restricted access, may incur additional charges, but may not always be available or provided by third party carriers. If you require white glove service, for example for furniture delivery into your premises, unpacking, or setup, then the most suitable option is a removalist service, which may be at a higher cost, so please contact us for a quote if this is preferred.
